This is an exciting and leading role for an experienced and capable hospitality manager to maintain and grow the business at one of the most beautiful and important destinations in Wales. As Head of Corporate and Catering you will be expected to promote the development and delivery of restaurant and conferencing services in line with the Garden’s ethos of sustainability and local food sourcing, and to meet its keen commercial targets. 2. Catering Assistant

Catering Assistants are part of the catering team at the Garden working in one of three catering outlets. These outlets are the Seasons Restaurant in the Stable block, the Mediterranean Cafe in the Great Glasshouse and the Gatehouse Coffee Shop at the main entrance. The position involves giving excellent customer service, adhering to hygiene regulations and encouraging visitor enjoyment. Tasks and responsibilities include cash handling, serving hot and cold food and drink products, replenishing stocks, ensuring cleanliness at all times, ensuring crockery, dishes and cutlery are washed and ready for use and clearing tables. 3. Horticultural Technician As Horticultural Technician you will be an important part of the Growing the Future (GTF) Team, working closely under the Project Manager with the Horticultural Trainer and another part-time Horticultural Technician.  The role is primarily responsible for planting, tending, and developing the GTF training areas and nursery plants, ensuring day-to-day plants and resources are available for course participants. You will already have strong practical skills in horticulture preferably with at least four years demonstrating competence and understanding both of food and vegetable growing and of allotment gardening.  You will also need to show appreciation and practical commitment to sustainable methods and organic systems. With proven organisational ability and keen attention to detail, you will be self-motivated and capable of working to a high level of individual responsibility with minimal supervision. As a good communicator, you will collaborate well with others in a team and ideally have experience of working with voluntary and community groups from diverse backgrounds.  Knowledge of safe working practices in horticultural operations and activities is expected.  Previous supervisory experience and a qualification or keen interest in delivering horticultural training would be advantageous. 4. Science Placement  Students (2015-16) During the placement, based in the Conservation and Research Department, you will work within one of the Garden’s current research areas carrying out your own research project within this. Our projects:

  • Barcode UK – a cutting edge project to DNA barcode all of the flowering plants of the UK
  • DNA barcoding applications – ranging from discovering the diets of endangered animals, tracking pollinators to understanding plant communities by identifying pollen and roots.
  • Rare Welsh Plants Project – combining conservation genetics and fieldwork to provide effective, integrated conservation for some of the most endangered plant species in Wales.

You will also be fully involved in all aspects and activities of the department. These are broad-ranging, from herbarium curation, giving talks to visiting groups, and collaborating with arts-science projects. While at the Garden you will be able to benefit from our facilities, using the library, herbarium and molecular lab to develop your skills as a research scientist. The placement offers an insight into current molecular ecology and plant conservation research and opportunities to meet other scientists working in plant sciences. 5. IT and Audio Visual Support -  This is an opportunity for you to become part of the Garden team, working to support the activities of one of the most iconic destinations in Wales. The National Botanic Garden of Wales is making a real difference to conservation, education, sustainability, and the enjoyment of the visitor.

For this role you will be educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably with practical IT-related qualification. You will have proven IT and digital technology support skills and competence (hardware, software, and systems) as well as evidence of good organisational ability. You will need excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, genuine sense of customer focus, and the ability to work with specialists and non-specialists alike as part of a team. A professional and courteous manner, with keen attention to detail, sound understanding of IT good-practices, and the ability to exercise discretion and to maintain confidentiality will be important. 6. Teachers – we need Welsh speaking primary and secondary science teachers to support our full time Education Department team. You will receive training for a variety of our taught programs and if suitable, you will be paid £10 per hour. You need to be relatively fit and love the outdoors.The amount of work depends on the the level of demand for our taught programs. 3. Technegydd Garddwriaethol

Mae prosiect Tyfu’r Dyfodol yn fenter gyffrous newydd sy’n cael ei rhedeg gan Ardd Fotaneg Genedlaethol Cymru ac mae’n darparu cyfleoedd hyfforddi garddwriaethol o ansawdd da i’r gymuned o fewn y gymuned. Trwy weithio gyda chanolfannau partneriaid, darperir hyfforddiant ar draws Cymru yn ogystal ag yn yr Ardd ei hun. Ynghyd â’r Technegydd Garddwriaethol llawn amser presennol byddwch yn rhan o’r Tîm Dyfodol Tyfu, gan weithio’n agos gyda Rheolwr Hyfforddwr Garddwriaethol a Phrosiect. 4.Gwyddoniaeth Myfyrwyr Lleoli ( 2015-16 ) Yn ystod y flwyddyn, byddwch wedi’ch lleoli yn yr Adran Gadwraeth a Gwaith Ymchwil, a byddwch yn gweithio o fewn un o adrannau gwaith ymchwil presennol yr Ardd, gan wneud eich prosiect ymchwil eich hun o fewn yr adran hon.  Ein prosiectau yw:

  • Codio Bar y DG – prosiect blaengar i godio bar DNA pob planhigyn blodeuol yn y DG.
  • Cymwysiadau côd bar DNA – yn amrwyio o ganfod deietau anifeiliaid mewn perygl, olrhain peillwyr, i ddeall cymunedau o blanhigion drwy adnabod paill a gwreidddiau.
  • Prosiect Planhigion Cymreig Prin – cyfuno geneteg cadwraeth â gwaith maes, er mwyn darparu cadwraeth effeithiol ac integredig ar gyfer rhai o’r rhywogaethau planhigion sydd fwyaf mewn perygl yng Nghymru.

Byddwch hefyd ynghlwm â phob agwedd a gweithgaredd yn yr adran,   Mae’r rhain yn amrywio o guraduro llysieufa, rhoi sgyrsiau i grwpiau o ymwelwyr, a chydweithio mewn prosiectau celfyddydol a gwyddonol.
