The National Botanic Garden of Wales is set on historic parkland, dating back around 400 years. Visitors can see how we’ve restored some wonderful remnants of the Middleton Regency Water Park, especially the Double Walled Garden, Principality House, the Stables and the Lakes.
But for those visitors who look a little harder, there’s a landcsape rich in clues about its past.
Botanic garden traces its roots
In 2011, following a successful bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Garden embarked on a journey back in time to explore the medieval history of its grounds. This year, we are are looking again. From July 14th to the 29th July 2012, we teamed up with experts Trinity St David University and enthusiastic volunteers to uncover more evidence of the early settlement on the Llanarthne estate. There were daily guided tours running even when we aren’t excavating.
