History
The National Botanic Garden of Wales is set on historic parkland, dating back around 400 years. Visitors can see how we’ve restored some wonderful remnants of the Middleton Regency Water Park, especially the Double Walled Garden, Principality House, the Stables and the Lakes.
But for those visitors who look a little harder, there’s a landcsape rich in clues about its past.

Botanic garden traces its roots
There was a touch of the Time Teams going on at the National Botanic Garden from 16th to 31st July. Following a successful bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund the Garden embarked on a journey back in time to explore the medieval history of its grounds. Teaming up with experts from Swansea and Trinity St David universities, staff and up to 30 enthusiastic volunteers uncovered evidence of the early settlement on the Llanarthne estate.
