The Biomass Energy Centre
Wood harvested through coppicing on site and reclaimed timber is chipped and fed to the Biomass furnace. The energy produced will heat enough water to serve the Great Glasshouse, the office complex, retail outlets and catering facilities. Compared with fossil fuels, oil and coal, wood burning is relatively clean and keeps the fossil fuel CO2 `locked away`. The Garden will require up to 270 tonnes of timber a year.
Cowlin Construction of Cardiff undertook the Energy Centre building work. Mechanical services were by F.P. Hurley of Pontiets. Electrical services were by Hyder. The wood boiler is by Nordist.
