Each term the Garden welcomes teachers on sabbaticals under the GTCW Placement Scheme. Professional development programmes include the development of teaching skills in the outdoor classroom and in teaching ESDGC. Energy and Climate Change - Energy and Water Conservation
Friday 13th February, 2008
- Teaching about climate change, world resource use and renewable technologies for the new ‘Sustainable Earth’ and ‘How things work’ science curriculum’s at Key Stage 2 and 3.
- Looking at simple steps to take in school to promote energy and water conservation, how to carry out audits in school to help with ESDGC related topics and Eco-schools.
- Exploring the role of the National Botanic Garden to provide a curriculum Cymreig dimension.
Growing Plants Successfully for the Curriculum.

- Develop skills and ideas to grow vegetables and wild plants successfully with your pupils, within the school grounds and under classroom conditions.
- Link healthy eating to growing and harvesting food in school.
- Link growing plants to the curriculum including; ESDGC, PSE, Literacy, Numeracy and Science
Willow Art, Design and Technology

- Practice and develop skills of working with willow for art and technology projects
- Ideas for projects working in the outdoors and within classrooms

Making the Best Educational Use of your School Pond.

- Improve background knowledge of; life in ponds, food chains, life cycles, identification, and environmental issues
- Learn awareness and skills of Health and Safety issues when using ponds
- Find out how to best manage and maintain a school pond
- Develop differentiated cross curriculum classroom activities when teaching at the pond
Mud Pies and Wriggly Things.

- Develop outdoor teaching skills and provide essential environmental experiences at Foundation Phase and KS2
- Work with mud, clay, sticks and stones in the school grounds
