We are able to customise a variety of programmes to meet individual needs and cross-curricular dimensions, making use of our unique living plant collections in the New Tropical Glasshouse, the Great Glasshouse, Systematics Garden, Wallace Genetics Garden, Apothecaries Garden, Woodlands and Organically farmed estate.

Plants in Action
Investigate science through the new Skills Curriculum with plant physiology and photosynthesis experiments. Find out how plants get the materials they need to stay alive, how they successfully colonise new areas and how they are of economic importance. A visit to the Simply Plants exhibition in the Great Glass House and an exploration of the Double Walled Garden will reinforce key concepts.

Life in Ponds
Collect and identify fresh water animals and plants from the lakes and dipping pools. Use data-logging apparatus to investigate the habitats. Work in the Aqualab to construct food chains and webs and build up ecological pyramids.
Conservation, biodiversity and the value of school ponds will also be considered.

Everyday Choices
Use the National Botanic Garden to help pupils understand about sustainable development - the key issues of recycling, energy and waste disposal are covered as pupils follow a trail around the Garden. Pupils are encouraged to consider the choices we have made, and how their own choices can affect the future. This program has added value for schools following the Eco Schools Scheme.

Plants and Health
Find out how people all over the world use plants to cure disease, and how plants prevent illness and promote good health. Explore the Physicians of Myddfai exhibition and Apothecary's Hall and Garden, then consider a modern dilemma which could affect us all.

The Grape Escape
Explore buoyancy and floatation. Design and build a raft using only natural materials found at the Garden that will carry a grape down the 200 metre rill and save it from being juiced

Food and Food Miles
Raising pupil awareness of the local and global issues both human and environmental that affect the food we buy. This workshop helps pupils formulate questions as they trace everyday food purchases from point of production through to consumption.

Bee Aware
The most invaluable species on the planet is threatened. Find out the important role bees play in pollination and food production, what threatens their existence and what we can do to help.

SELF LED GROUP VISITS

English and Arts
The Garden has become a highly popular venue for art projects and for creative writing and poetry. The beauty of the Garden and the global significance of our conservation work provides a stimulating and authentic environment for pupils to engage in interpretation through art, crafts, creative writing and poetry.
