PLANTS IN ACTION
Bring the National Curriculum to life with living collections from around the world and hands-on activities covering the key areas of plant science, eg plant adaptations, pollination, germination. Experience plant biodiversity in our new Plant Families beds in the Double Walled Garden.
LIFE IN PONDS
Collect and identify fresh water animals and plants from the lakes and dipping pools. Use data-logging apparatus to investigate the habitats. Work in the Aqualab to construct food chains and webs and build up ecological pyramids. Conservation, biodiversity and the value of school ponds will also be considered.
EVERYDAY CHOICES
Use the National Botanic Garden to help pupils understand about sustainable development - the key issues of recycling, energy and waste disposal are covered as pupils follow a trail around the Garden. Pupils are encouraged to consider the choices we have made, and how their own choices can affect the future. This program has added value for schools following the Ecoschools Scheme.
TECHNOLOGY IN THE GARDEN
Explore the technology of the Garden. Study structures and forces at work along side the highly advanced computer controlled environmental systems, in the biggest single span glasshouse in the world.
GENETICS AT THE GARDEN
Use the living collections in the Wallace Garden to help pupils understand the key concepts of genetics, natural selection and selective breeding. This programme is available in the Summer Term and early Autumn Term only.
PLANTS AND HEALTH
Find out how people all over the world use plants to cure disease, and how plants prevent illness and promote good health. Explore the Physicians of Myddfai exhibition and Apothecary's Hall, then consider a modern dilemma which could affect us all.
LEISURE AND TOURISM
The garden has just been voted the Nations favourite Lottery-funded Environment Project. Come and explore this major visitor attraction and learn from the experts.
FOOD AND FOOD MILES
Raising pupil awareness of the local and global issues both human and environmental that affect the food we buy. This workshop helps pupils formulate questions as they trace everyday food purchases from point of production through to consumption.
SELF LED GROUP VISITS
Art at the Garden
