First flowering of Darwin's Orchid

The Darwin Orchid has flowered for the first time in the Tropical House. It is a bloom with a very special story to tell. The Darwin Orchid (also known as a 'comet orchid') was found by Charles Darwin in Madagascar. It provided a stern test of his theory of evolution. Its 25cm long nectar tube prompted Darwin to insist that, somewhere nearby, would be an insect with a 25cm-long tongue.
