Garden appoints new trustees
The Board of Trustees of the National Botanic Garden of Wales is delighted to announce the appointment of six new Trustees. They are:
- Sue Balsom
- John Ellis
- Rupert Goodman
- John Gore
- Sir Roger Jones
- Baroness Royall
The positions were advertised throughout the UK and stimulated a tremendous response. The successful candidates have been appointed following a rigorous and open selection process. This was led by Victoria Provis of Odgers, Ray and Berndston, one of the foremost recruitment firms in Europe, in consultation with the Welsh Assembly Government, Carmarthenshire County Council and the Millennium Commission.
Alan Hayward, Chairman of Trustees, says the new Board members are joining at an exciting time in the life of the Garden. 2005 promises to be a busy year building on the considerable successes achieved in 2004, delivered by the new management team, staff and some 200 volunteers. He said: "The regard in which the Garden is viewed has been reflected in the extremely high calibre of people who have shown an interest in becoming Trustees. Each new Trustee brings a great deal of professional expertise and experience from a variety of fields, to help the Garden move forward with confidence and strength to meet its exciting and challenging objectives".
The new appointments bring the total number of Trustees to twelve, to complement the vast experience and expertise of the existing Board members. The positions are unpaid and involve a commitment of about one to two days a month.
