Garden awarded for excellence
The National Botanic Garden of Wales has won a prestigious award from Education Minister Jane Davidson.
The awards ceremony, held in the sumptuous surroundings of the Miskin Manor Country Hotel, Cardiff, was the high point of the Annual Mid Glamorgan Education Business Partnerships Dinner.
The Garden was awarded the Teacher Placement Award for Industry for supporting the professional development of secondary school teachers.
It completed a very impressive double for the Garden. Last year, head of education Trevor Roach collected the award for the placement of primary school teachers.
Trevor said: “I am delighted to receive this award on behalf of the National Botanic Garden of Wales.
“There are many organisations in Wales that provide placements and training for secondary school teachers and it is pleasing to be acknowledged as a leader in this field.”
Andrea Meyrick, who is the Teacher Placement Organiser with Mid Glamorgan EBP, praised the Llanarthne attraction as offering “excellent professional development opportunities for teachers”.
Andrea added: “This award is richly deserved. Teachers spend between one day and six weeks on placement gaining an overview of the Garden and what it has to offer to enhance and enrich classroom work. Teachers always give their placement experience at the Garden top marks.”
