New Director is named

The Trustees of the National Botanic Garden of Wales are delighted to announce the appointment of Kevin Lamb as Director of the Garden.

Kevin has been Director of Income and Visitor Operations at At-Bristol since 2002.

At-Bristol is one of the leading interactive science centres in the UK and a unique destination which brings science and the natural world to life for some 450,000 visitors a year.

As well as building up visitor numbers, Kevin has significantly increased operational income and fundraising.

He has also held senior positions with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Anagram International and the BOC Group.

Kevin will take up his appointment in January.

Chairman of the Garden’s Trustees, Robin Lewis, said: “We are delighted that Kevin Lamb will be joining us. He brings with him a substantial record of achievement and we are confident that he will build on the success which the Garden’s staff, under the leadership of Roy J. Thomas, has achieved.

“The Trustees wish to pay tribute to the invaluable work of Mr Thomas, who has been acting Chief Executive since September 2005.”

Mr Lewis said: “Roy’s work has been absolutely crucial in enabling the Garden to carry out the recovery plan agreed with the Welsh Assembly Government and Carmarthenshire County Council.

“Everyone connected with the Garden and supportive of its future owes Roy a very great debt.”
Commenting on the appointment, Alun Pugh, Minister for Culture, Welsh Language and Sport in the Welsh Assembly Government, said: “This is a further step in strengthening the management team of the Garden and will play a big part in making positive progress.
“The Welsh Assembly Government has provided significant investment for the Garden to help them turn around their fortunes and we will continue our financial support for the next two years.
“There are a number of new initiatives under way at the Garden, including the new Tropical Glasshouse development.
“I am sure the new Director will relish the challenge ahead and help the Garden continue to develop.”
