Katherine’s orchid goes on show
The now-famous Katherine Jenkins orchid – unveiled last week at the N
ational Botanic Garden of Wales – has gone on display in the Garden’s Gallery.
The chart-topping singer visited the Garden to celebrate the start of planting in the stunning new Tropical House (which opens officially on Thursday July 19) and was presented with the plant named after her to mark the occasion.
Katherine said: “I love orchids. It’s such an honour to have one named after me. I’m so lucky. I love the frilly edge and it has a hint of pink which is my favourite colour.”
The Garden’s head of operations Ray Butt said: “We have had a lot of inquiries about the Katherine Jenkins orchid so we thought it made sense to get some of the plants and put them on display so music fans and flower fans alike can take a closer look.
He added: “You can’t see them anywhere else so this really is a blooming exclusive for the Garden!”
The orchid will not be available for sale until later this year and is expected to cost anything up to £100 depending on the size of the plant.
The orchid is a member of the Odontoglossum family which were originally brought to the UK from Columbia more than 100 years ago and is widely regarded as the most beautiful of all the orchids with its delicate, ruffled petals.
