Nine per cent rise in Garden visitors
The stunning new Tropical House is proving a big hit with visitors to the National Botanic Garden of Wales.
Despite being the wettest July since grandmothers learned to suck eggs, the total number of visitors to the Carmarthenshire attraction has shown a big year-on-year rise – up nine per cent.
The first quarter of 2007-2008 has seen big increases in Education visits and a steep rise in catering and plants sales. But to top last July’s visitor figure bucks the trend for attractions all over the UK.
Director Kevin Lamb said: “It’s been so wet but that has not put people off coming to the Garden in their droves.
“We have had a sustained marketing campaign spreading the word about our fabulous new attraction – the Tropical House – and it really seems to be working.
“John Belle’s wonderful Tropical House design provides a real wow factor and we are obviously getting our message across – the Garden is a great day out for all the family, whatever the weather.”
NB: The visitor figure for July 2006 was 15,370. The visitor figure for July 2007 is 16,735
