16. Springwoods
Spring and autumn brings the best out of this east-facing wood, which provides a good overview of the Double Walled Garden. In spring the wood is carpeted with a sea of celandines, primroses, violets and bluebells. Watch out for an impressive variety of snowdrops and the green flowered Derwydd Daffodil.
In autumn, 24 hazel cultivars produce a variety of nuts.
The wood is dedicated to Professor Philip Wareing (1914-96) of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth who was a highly respected specialist in plant hormones and tree physiology.
