There are 6 ponds here, each packed full of life.

Newts, pond skaters & water beetles share this water with bizarre microscopic life forms. Vicious dragonfly larvae lurk in the dark silty depths, hoping to feast on tadpoles, snails and water spiders.

Would you like to have a look at these creatures?

In school holidays, we run Pond Dipping sessions for families, using nets, trays and microscopes. Check our Events webpage for times and dates.  You’ll need to book your place at the Gatehouse entrance.

We also offer pond dipping programmes for Foundation and Primary schoolchildren.

Sorry – please don’t pond dip on your own. We carefully manage these ponds to protect their biodiversity and limit the spread of disease.

Thank you Darren Boxer for the great underwater photos – see more of his work at Port Studio Photography.
