Diamonds, pirates and beautiful music
This year’s Midsummer Concert at the National Botanic Garden of Wales is promising to be a diamond jubilation.
The 40-piece Symphonica Tywi will be playing from 7.30 until dusk in the Great Glasshouse on Saturday June 23 and this year’s musical feast is entitled ‘Happy and Glorious’, featuring 60 years of radio, TV and film music.
Conductor Mike Cottam said: “It is hugely fitting for us this year to make our annual concert a celebration of 60 years of music. There will definitely be something for everyone with popular themes ranging from The Archers to Pirates Of The Caribbean.”
Tickets for the event are £10 (£8.50 for Garden members) and include entry to the Garden on the day. Head of marketing, David Hardy said: “It’s always a fantastic occasion. People bring along picnics and really make a day of it. In truth, there’s not much to beat sitting amid the Mediterranean plants as the sun goes down, listening to this stunning orchestra play beautiful music.”
