Get close to the wire

The latest art show in the Gallery at the National Botanic Garden is the result of a participatory project held over the summer at Carmarthen’s Oriel Myrddin Gallery. A series of  10 weekly workshops took place for people with emotional health problems, devised and run by Carmarthenshire artist Julia Griffiths Jones. This pilot was initiated by Engage Cymru in partnership with Arts Care Gofal Celf and Oriel Myrddin Gallery with additional support from Mind and WWAMH. Says Julia: “Those who took part were invited to spend as much or as little time in the gallery as they felt able – the only fixed idea being that everyone would work in wire, that it would be a fun and worthwhile thing to do that could increase well-being and that at the end we would exhibit ‘Wired’ at the National Botanic Garden of Wales.”

She added: “We could not have envisaged the journey that we travelled during those weeks, the commitment and energy of those involved, the friendships formed and the beauty and creativity of the pieces made. We are grateful to everyone who helped to make this extraordinary, joyful exhibition.” Wired is at the National Botanic Garden of Wales from Sunday October 7 until Saturday November 24, with a special, invitation-only ‘launch’ on Saturday October 6 at 2pm.
