Special Offer – Subsidised School Visits

Two great new initiatves will help Welsh schoolchildren come to the Garden.

The first is to help Key Stage 2, 3 and 4 pupils come here to learn about sustainable development. We have received funding from SFIA to enable four lucky schools, within community first areas, to visit the Garden in the autumn term 2012. Each lucky school will be able to bring a class of 30 pupils to the Garden to participate in one of our schools programmes that make use of our fascinating and inspiring green technology trail. With this funding we are able to offer the Garden entry and teaching time for free (usually £4.00 per child plus VAT) and up to £200 towards the cost of coach hire for the day.

The second initiative is our Field Safari which will introduce years 5 and 6 to basic ecology during the summer and autumn terms 2012. Funding by the Coutryside Council for Wales is allowing us to offer a FREE programme and up to 50% of the price of the school’s coach hire. Based on Waun Las National Nature Reserve, our organic working farm, pupils will learn about food chains, food webs, how to sample and measure plants in the wild, and how to find and identify animal signs. This pilot programme runs from 10am – 2.30pm,  and is available from June to the end of October 2012.
