Two-day festival is a record-breaker

The biggest platform for women performers Wales has ever seen takes place at the National Botanic Garden on August 26-27.

Celtic WomenFest 2012 features more than 50 acts over two days and stars big names from the world of Welsh music such as Amy Wadge and Jen Wilson, as well as up-and-coming musicians alongside poetry, drumming workshops, dance, song circles and sound sculptures.

The two-day, bank holiday festival has been organised by freelance creative director and award-winning singer-songwriter Cheryl Beer.

She says: “We are looking forward to what will doubtless be two fabulous days of women’s music and poetry. We are very lucky to have some of Wales’ most established women musicians and poets, as well as a plethora of up-and-coming songstresses. The response from everyone has been overwhelming.”

The festival will run from 11am until 7pm on Sunday August 26 and Monday August 27 and is guaranteed to offer something for everyone.

David Hardy, who is in charge of Events at the Garden, said: “Cheryl has worked terrifically hard to put this formidable line-up together and she’s managed to break all records in terms of providing a platform for women artists.”

Other names on the bill include Heather Jones, Sian James, the Garden’s ‘Poet in Residence’ Mab Jones, Rhian Edwards, Susie Wild, Alison Lenihan, Anne Lister, Jemma Krysa and Abertillery Ladies’ Orpheus Choir.
