For just £25, pick a species to sponsor and be part of our exciting aim to be the first nation to barcode all of its native flowering plants. Sponsor a barcode for £25

Choose the species that you would like to sponsor from our list of Welsh native flowering plants. As a thank you for your donation, you will receive:

  • A certificate showing the DNA barcode of your sponsored species.
  • Your name will appear next to your chosen species on our website and on the international DNA barcode database (if you would rather your name did not appear, just let us know).

Over the next few years we will be expanding our research to develop applications using our barcodes. These will focus on using the barcode information in practical ways to conserve biodiversity and improve peoples’ lives.

How does your money get spent?

By sponsoring a barcode you are making a direct contribution to the ongoing costs of supporting DNA barcoding and its applications at the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Your money will pay for the costs of extracting DNA; amplifying and sequencing the barcode genes. It will also pay for our research to develop DNA barcoding applications.

If more than one person chooses to support the same species all names will be linked to that species. The certificates, with DNA barcodes, that you will receive, represent our thank you for your donation and have no commercial value. Your details are required only for us to post certificates and will not be passed on to any third party.
