Shopping and Eating
“The Teapot Cafe” can be found at our Garden entrance and. like our Garden Plant Shop, doesn’t need an admission fee to use. It’s a lovely place to come and relax whilst enjoying the taste of Wales with our locally made and sourced light food food and drinks. There’s also the chance to buy Welsh made produce such as laverbread, jams, cheeses & cakes.
“The Garden Plant Shop” sells gardening gifts, pots and plants, from the ordinary to the exotic. Whilst wondering around the Botanic garden, look out for red signs that tell you the plant is on sale in our shop. If you can not find what you want (we can’t stock every plant inside the Botanic Garden!), please ask or ring 01558 667138 and we may be able to get it for you. See our latest line in 2011 Spring & Autumn flowering bulbs AND Mushroom growing kit. Please note that we now accept and sell National Garden Gift Vouchers.
In the Seasons Restaurant we aim to use foods that are organic and as local as possible. Vegetables and fruit grown in our organic Double Walled Garden are used when in season and we endeavour to use Non-Genetically Modified food products. On the opposite side of the Stable Block is the Garden Shop. This stocks a wide variety of products from local Welsh crafts to ethically traded bamboo products from Asia (for more info on bamboo and sustainability click here). In summer 2010, we’re stocking lots of dinosaur gifts to coincide with the The James Field Guide to Dinosaurs Exhibition. Phone 01558 66716
8 to contact the shop directly.
The Mediterranean Café, which is in the style of a street café, can be found in the Great Glasshouse. This year it will be offering a wider range of foods including Salads, Pastas, and Mediterranean style rolls and pastries. We will also still be serving fantastic Italian style coffee and traditional Welsh cream teas. Why not enjoy your food under the olive trees! (NB the Mediterranean Café is usually closed out of season.)
Sustainable Living
Ninety percent of all the food served in our catering outlets is prepared and cooked on site by our in-house catering team. We are able to cater for customers’ dietary needs. We have 2 or 3 vegetarian options on offer every day and we have recently introduced a Healthy Eating Buffet menu into our Corporate Package. We use Fair Trade products, helping to improve working conditions and guarunteeing fair rates of pay for Developing World producers.
Much of the waste produced by the catering department is currently being recycled. All glass goes for recycling as does cardboard, paper and plastics. The used cooking oil goes for processing to be turned into Bio Diesel, some members of staff already use biofuel in their cars.
