Aeonium sp. – House Leek

Many medicinal properties are attributed to houseleeks; including healing of burns and wounds.  Many of the soothing actions of the plant come from the mucilage in the leaf that also contains anti-inflammatory substances.

  • Aeonium lindleyi from Tenerife is especially renowned to be the best antidote to the burning effect of Euphorbia latex on the skin and eyes. A recent study has discovered a substance that is a good candidate to explain this action.
